Obituary For Winetta Hilton

It is with much love and sadness that we the family of Winetta Hilton announce
her passing on August 29, 2023 at the age of 96. Winetta was born in Belleoram,
Newfoundland to Priscilla and Ernest Taylor. She later moved to Dartmouth, N.S.
where she met William ‘Billy’ Hilton, her husband of 71 years. Besides Billy,
Winetta is survived by her children Sharon (Russell) Hennigar, and their daughter
Sherrie (partner Perry); John (Lynne) Hilton and their children Scotty (children
William and Genevieve), Leanne (son Ethan), Stephanie and Scott (daughter
Audrey); and Ernie (Elizabeth) Hilton and their children, Christopher (son Kash),
and Amanda (partner Brock). She is also survived by many extended family
whom she adored. Besides her parents, Winetta was predeceased by her
siblings Mary, Ernie, Richard, Dorothy, Shan, Lyman, and Elsie. She was
masterfully independent in a variety of hobbies over the years such as
bread-making, knitting, crocheting, typing, fishing and reading and truly enjoyed
teaching these skills to others. Possibly her favorite activity was being the
passenger on Billy’s motorcycle as they traveled to Newfoundland or the
Mooseland Hilton Family Camp. Her favorite way to spend her time was by being
surrounded with family and friends for a game of cards. You could never visit
Winetta without being cared for; she guaranteed your comfort and always sent
you home with goodies, whether it be a photo of yourself from years ago or a five
dollar bill secretly tucked into your pocket. She was a kind and generous person
to everyone she encountered and this was especially true with children. She
babysat for the children of many generations and was known to meet the
neighborhood youngsters with treats as they passed. She was ‘Nanny’ to many
and each one was cherished, as proven by the photos plastering the walls of her
home. We are profoundly grateful for her wonderful life and know she will be
dearly missed. In lieu of flowers we request you share a meal and game of cards
with someone you love! Donations in Winetta’s memory may be made to a
charity of your choice. As per her wishes, there will be no visitation or service.

Billy, our friendship goes back over fifty years with you and Winetta starting with Winetta's babysitting services. As we became more acquainted our families spent much more time together. We had many good times. Playing 45s was certainly a highlight for Winetta and she won many more 30 for 60 bids than she lost. Our condolences to you and the Hilton family. Don and Jean
