Obituary For Florence "May" Mary McMaster

It is with great sadness to announce the death of May McMaster. May was the late daughter of Emma & James Harris; Belfast, UK. May is survived by her brother, Jim Harris; loving daughters, Colleen McMaster, Cathy Fort-McMaster, and Kelly Kitchin; loving son, Michael McMaster; and beloved grandchildren, Stephanie Fort; Riley Kitchin; Richard Fort, James Kitchin. May was predeceased by her husband, Leonard McMaster in 1991 and her son, Leonard Jr. McMaster in 2003.

After the death of her husband, May migrated to Nova Scotia to be with her daughters. She said it was the Irish in our blood that drew us to the ocean. She lived off Rainbow Haven Beach and walked her dog faithfully along the shore and watched the surfers. We jokingly called her “May Watch”.

May was known for her cooking and hospitality. She had annual Christmas Eve parties where everyone was invited, and always with enough food to feed a small village. May had an overwhelming generosity and kindness that made you feel loved when you were around her. She loved Yahtzee, Scrabble, and Trivial Pursuit (as long as it wasn’t a Sport question). She loved to travel and had some great adventures with her two best friends, Doreen Osselton and Martha Newton.

May will be greeted in Heaven by her two best friends with new adventures planned and reunited with her husband, son, sisters, and parents.

In honor of May’s wishes, there will be a small private gathering.

We want to say thank you to the staff of Caratis Residence. The most caring and loving group of professionals that helped her transition to peace at the end of life.

In lieu of flowers please give to the SPCA or another animal shelter of your choosing in honour of Florence Mary McMaster.

A beautiful lady, May McMaster was. So many fond memories of her during my teen years growing up in Ontario. We spent many many long nights at that yahtzee game. Yummy dinners, lots of tea on the stove, great times. You were always welcomed in her home. What a great mom her children had. Love and hugs to all of you from Patsy in Ucluelet, BC
