Obituary For Carolyn Rothwell

It is with profound sadness with announce the passing of Carolyn Rothwell, October 17, 2026

Carolyn passed away peacefully at the age of 64, surrounded by her loved ones in Dartmouth.

Carolyn grew up in Dartmouth, daughter of the late Elsie (Mcleod) Rothwell and Albert Rothwell (Janet). She lived a loving and lively upbringing, and spoke fondly of memories with her brother Dave and cousins on Lake Charlotte. Carolyn was always up for some fun and adventure whether she was trick water skiing or driving her black Trans Am around Dartmouth, she was always in the company of friends and loved ones.

Carolyn had a contagious affection, making everyone around her feel loved and cared for. She became an LPN and a career in nursing came naturally to her. In likeness of her mother, she had a special interest in psychiatric nursing. Carolyn spent many years working at the Halifax County Rehabilitation Centre and as the mental health system evolved, she followed her patients and committed her career at Quest, even after giving retirement a try. Carolyn loved being a nurse, she found purpose and meaningfulness in making a difference in the lives of others. And while she built special connections with her patients, she simultaneously built a family within her co-workers that she cherished with her whole heart. Carolyn never dreaded a day with her work family.

Carolyn leaves to mourn her adored husband Glenn (Hewitt). Together through the decades they built a lasting and enduring love. They enjoyed simple things and quality time, but there was never a dull moment. They had a love balanced with trust and fun, devotion and commitment. They stood by each other’s side and faced everyday as a team. Glenn was the love of Carolyns life and made her laugh like no one else, even on her hardest days.

Her pride and joy was her daughter, Kendra Pottie (Nicole). Carolyn poured her whole heart into motherhood, raising Kendra with patience, encouragement, and unconditional love and support. Their relationship was built on laughter, trust and a treasured closeness that deepened over the years. They share an intangible connection that will stretch beyond the spans of this lifetime.

Carolyn is also lovingly remembered by her stepsons, Gregg (Julie) and Glenn (Lilian) who held a special place in her heart and many memories over the years, She cherished being a grandmother to grandchildren Tayvie, Wyatt, Jade, Grayson, Marcus and Maia.

She will be loved and remembered by her father Al Rothwell (Janet) her brother Dave Rothwell and sister-in-law Pam. As well as her special friend Penny Simms who was always by her side. Carolyn will be missed by the many other friends and connections she made through the years.

Carolyn had a soft spot for the children in her neighbourhood, especially Ariel, with whom she enjoyed spending time and offering a little extra care when needed.

A devoted animal lover, Carolyn adored her dogs Tika, Jake, and Gabby—her constant companions who brought her peace, routine, and unconditional love. As well as her cats Bud and Maggie. They were part of her daily rhythm, and she cared for them with the same gentleness she offered everyone else. Carolyn will also be greeted by past pets and animals she loved and cared for over the years, Molly, Gizmo, a squirrel from Lawrencetown, a seagull from the highway median. Hope for Wildlife will have one less caller.

Carolyn found joy in the simple, quiet hobbies that reflect her gentle nature. She was a talented knitter often gifting scarves, mitts, blankets and dishcloths made with patience and care. Carolyn also had a green thumb and found peace tending to her plants. She shared her knowledge with anyone who would tour her greenhouse or gardens over the years. An avid cooker, nature lover and tea drinker. She had many enjoyments in life, and never turned down a good meal with good company.

She will be remembered for her warm smile, her instinct to help, and her ability to make every person feel seen, supported, and cared for. She had a love that was radiant and spirit that could not be broken. She stood strong for what she wanted and believed in- to know her was to know true strength. She will be missed immensely but felt always.

A Celebration of Life will be planned in the Spring of 2027, her favorite time of year
