Obituary For James Alexander Woods

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of James Alexander Woods (aka Sandy). He passed away peacefully at the VG Hospital in Halifax, N.S. on Friday, November 5, 2021.

He is the son of Ruby M. Woods and the late James P. Woods. He is survived by his mother, Ruby M. Woods and his son, Samuel A. Bernard, five siblings and several grand children. His siblings are Patricia J. Aucoin, Katherine A. Woods, Michelle Conrod, Roderick W. Woods and Stephen Woods.

Sandy enjoyed reading, listening to music and having a cold beer. Above all he loved motorcycles and spent many years employed as a motorcycle mechanic. He spent all day working on motorcycles and looked forward to a relaxing bike ride after work. In his spare time he would tinker with his own bike and help his friends keep their bikes in tip top condition. He lived his dream – riding, racing and repairing motorcycles.

Sandy will be missed by family and friends.

Sandy always called me Sunshine and I always said Ain't no Sunshine in my Life. He was my dearest friend for 51 years and I was his dearest friend. I made a career out of working at Chapters and Sandy went on to be a Red Seal Bike Mechanic with a photographic memory. We both loved bikes, reading and music. We were fortunate to have grown up around music as a lot of our friends were musicians. Sandy never made the cover of the Rolling Stone but he made the cover of the Coast. Sandy never liked cars ever and went out and bought a bike when he was 16 years old. That teenager stunt that he did on that bike wasn't funny at all. He took a big run down that ramp and he shot up through the trees, then over the top of the trees. He let go of that bike just before he hit the pavement. That was the worst stunt by the little Daredevil that I remember. He had his own little bike club called the Vikings and they raced bikes all the time. He saved one of the girls from drowning down in Lawrencetown when we were down there partying around the bonfire one night as teenagers. He told me one night while we were watching The Big Bang, that I was worse than Penny. Good thing we both had an awesome sense of humour when he said that one. He got me out of a few scrapes and I did the same for him. Big, big hugs Sandy. You were my Guardian Angel Sweetie. I miss you every minute of every day and I feel lost without you. I will see you again someday. Carl and I are still going to do the Bike Run in the Spring like I promised you at the hospital. You smiled at that one. It's going to be a Bike Run, Bike Tear. We all miss you very, very much.

To Jim's family I want you to know that I only knew Jim through his place of employment, I always shared a quiet conversation with him , especially after he had worked on our bikes. Jim was passionate about motorcycles , as we are , but Jim had an ability that few could copy. He could diagnose a problem on our bikes simply by listening. More importantly, he could repair the problem without a lot of expense ! Jim was well respected by the people he worked with and by his customers. God speed Jim Pam & Michael P Spearns
