Obituary For Andrew Winston Tingley

Andrew Winston Tingley of Halifax passed away August 19, 2025 at Dartmouth General Hospital at the age of 62. He was Born in Pembrooke, Ontario, the son of the late WO2 Darrell Everette Tingley of Hopewell Cape, N.B. and Joan Louise (Kane) Tingley of Alma, New Brunswick. Andrew and family lived in many places, being in a Canadian Army family. He lived in Pembrooke, Ontario. He also spent five years of his childhood in West Germany living in Lahr, Werl, Soest, and Hemer. Moving back to Canada he lived in Oromocto NB, Sackville NS, Calgary AB, Bedford NS and Halifax NS.

After High school he hitchhiked across Canada and went to work for a bee farmer in northern Alberta, learning about bees and Borscht from his employer. Andrew later studied Stationary Engineering then joined the Canadian Coastguard and spent his career working on a variety of ships, enjoying trips to the Canadian North and Newfoundland and Labrador. He especially enjoyed taking photos of the northern landscape and had many pictures of Polar Bears and ice bergs. He was a big Hockey and Baseball fan, and did not miss many games when he was near a television.

Andrew is remembered for his sense of humour, quick smiles, laughter, and love of playing games and playing tricks on those closest to him. He spent many hours with his family fishing, finding any opportunity to cast a line. His easy and endearing personality saw him striking up conversations with anyone he met in his travels and he could find common ground and share a laugh and a story with anyone he crossed paths with.

Andrew is survived by his mother Joan, sister Donna (Mike) his nieces Karla and Amy, and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He enjoyed birthdays and holidays with his nieces over the years, a favorite uncle to spend time with.

The family would like to thank the staff at Dartmouth General 5 east for the care given to Andrew over the last months he was there.

A private graveside service for immediate family will take place at the later date.

Cremation has taken place, under the care and direction of Donald K. Walker Funeral Directors. You are warmly welcomed to share a memory or
