Obituary For Jean Marina Marryatt

Jean Marina Marryatt, age 91, of Sambro, Nova Scotia, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2026.

Jean was a strong and loving woman, known for her independent spirit and deep devotion to her family. Though she could be stubborn at times, it was always paired with a caring heart and a fierce love for those closest to her.

She found joy in life’s simple pleasures. Jean loved tending to her plants and gardens, relaxing in the warmth of the sun, and enjoying shopping trips with her family. She spent many quiet hours doing puzzles, reading, and listening to music, and she never missed the nightly news. In her younger years, she enjoyed knitting and was especially known for making the best chocolate fudge which is something her family will always remember fondly.

Jean will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her son Michael Marryatt (Susie Gray) and daughter Darlene Gray (Tony Gray). She was a proud grandmother to Peter Gray (Angie), Jenny Gray (Joey), Katrina Marryatt (Shawn), and Stephanie Garrison (Grant). She also leaves behind her cherished great-grandchildren Maddie, Jacob, Isaac, Kai, Paisley, and Rexie, as well as her great-great-grandchildren Ivan and Rosie (Scarlet).

She was predeceased by her daughter, Elaine; her parents, Howard Gilkie and Cora Gilkie (McPhee); her husband, Gerald Marryatt; her partner, Art Reyno; her brothers, Hally and Gerry; and her sister, Florence.

Jean has been cremated. A burial will take place at a later date, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband.

Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
