Obituary For Anna Denise Monbourquette

Monbourquette, Anna Denise of Dartmouth passed away August 1, 2025 at the QEII Hospital, Halifax, surrounded by her family.

Born in Cape Breton, Denise grew up both in Three Island Cove and in Halifax.

The natural world and her family were central lifelong loves. For many years Denise was a runner, nature walker and yoga enthusiast; a “foodie” and recipe collector, gardener, bird watcher, nature photographer, and a very active and respected member of Dartmouth Players Community Theatre. A sought-after Stage Manager and occasional actor, the circle of those who worked with Denise over the years also includes many members (and former members) of Theatre Arts Guild and Bedford Players. A calm, quiet, well-organized and very professional person, directors greatly valued Denise's skill set and personality. As did her employers at JNP Enterprises, who were also respected friends. She was also deeply committed to her community. Denise had a wonderful warmth and humour that won many hearts.

Denise is survived by siblings David Monbourquette, Gloria Frosst, and Sandra Morrison (Bill Mueller); nieces and nephews Therese, Dennis, Tony, Joe, Amanda, Tracy and Annie; and a circle of extended family and friends.

Denise was predeceased by her parents, Dennis and Annie May Monbourquette, sisters Marion Laplante and Leona Gilbert, and brother-in-law, Donald Bezanson. And by her beloved cats, Palomino and Minnie.

In accordance with Denise’s wishes, there will be a private family service in Cape Breton at a later date. You can celebrate Denise’s memory simply by spending time in nature, involved in community activities, or with friends and loved ones.

If wished, you can make a donation in her name to a charity that protects natural habitats or supports healthy communities. Denise was a devoted long-term donor to many charities, including Hope for Wildlife, The North Grove (Dartmouth), SPCA, and others.

Cremation has taken place, under the care and direction of Donald K. Walker Funeral Directors. You are warmly welcomed to share a memory or photo of Denise.

Growing up, Denise and I shared everything. Her clothes got handed down to me, her little sister; her friends became my friends. We were so inseparable that everyone called us Denise and Sandra. We graduated from high-school together, lived in Halifax together, even got our first jobs not far from each other, meeting for lunch at McDonald's when we could afford it. When I moved to BC, Denise came out for visits, we'd write or call or message each other with news, good or bad. I will love you forever and you will always be in my heart, my darling sister.

Very saddened to hear of her passing, Denise was one of the first people I met when I joined Dartmouth players so many years ago. She had a quirky sense of humour and we laughed often. We stayed in touch with Facebook as I had moved to the west coast. I will miss her, and her posts
