Elaine Bernice Newcombe (Varbeff)

It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our mother, Tiny, who passed away at the age of 86.

She lived in Dartmouth for most of her life with her children and her parents where she made a loving home to spend time with family and great friends. Her children's friends were always welcome in their home. She was called, 'Mum', by many.

Tiny was known for her sharp wit and wry sense of humour, which never wavered, even through life’s many challenges. She was the life of the party leaving friends and family laughing for hours. She was a loyal friend being there to help whenever needed. In her later years, as health issues kept her at home, she found comfort in the company of friends and family, online card games, and adored her grandchildren Dr. Pimple Popper. She also enjoyed watching crime dramas and reruns of Carol Burnett and Johnny Carson.

Tiny will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for her strength, humour, resilience and unforgettable character. As we say goodbye, we find solace in the countless memories that will continue to shape our lives. Though her absence leaves a void, her spirit endures in the stories we share, the moments we treasure, and the love we carry forward.

She is survived by her children, Cheryl Chafe and Bill McLaughlin as well as 3 grandchildren, Nick and Davey Chafe, Marrissa McLaughlin and great granddaughter Ava Chafe and may nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, William and Mary Varbeff, brothers Boris, Ralph, George and Billy and sisters, Alvina, Marie, Lillian and Irene and her best friend Mary.

Cremation has taken place, under the care of Donald K. Walker Funeral Directors, Dartmouth, NS. A celebration of Tiny’s life, with family and close friends, will be held at a later date.
