Obituary For John Kendall Young

Young, J. Kendall

September, 1954 – July 13, 2025

After a brief illness Kendall accepted grace from God on July 13, 2025, aged 70, at Dartmouth General Hospital. He was the son of the late J. Keith Young and Noreen Young (Schwartz). He is survived by sisters Bonnie, Becky-Lee and Meredith, and nephew Christopher.

Kendall was artistic and a talented crafter. He painted and did needlepoint. He spread joy to neighbours with his seasonal decorations. His favorite season to decorate for was Christmas, and his pride each year was the Christmas Tree which had over 2000 lights and hundreds of ornaments, which he spent days setting up as everything had to be “just so”.

His absolute passion was his garden. Everyone who saw it commented on his colour scheme and variety of plants, some quite exotic. One year he snuck in a very realistic looking 6-foot fake cactus and people were amazed he was able to grow such a thing in Dartmouth, laughing every time people commented on it.

Kendall loved to travel, having been to Europe several times, but his favorite destination was Florida. If he could have lived anywhere else, he would have chosen Orlando. He loved the Florida sun and heat. His close runner up was Mexico.

Kendall loved books and movies and owned an extensive book collection. He was an avid watcher of game shows. His favorite genres of movies were horror and old movies, black and white productions. He had a wicked sense of humor and sarcasm, though they were not always appreciated by everyone.

A Celebration of Life will be held on July 19, 2025 at 1:00 pm at the Lutheran Church of Our Saviour on Portland Street in Dartmouth.

Very special thanks to all the staff of the ICU at Dartmouth General Hospital for their kindness and care of Kendall and support of our family. In this day and age everyone is so negative with health care. We appreciate the efforts of the staff and feel they go above and beyond.
