Obituary For Percy "Perce" Gordon Hood

Percy Gordon Hood (Perce)
April 15 1932 - March 15 2024

Our Dad, Percy passed away peacefully at the age of 91. Born to Elizabeth & William Hood in Windsor NS, Percy was a loving husband, devoted father, and grandfather. Percy married the love of his life Verna Manson and they raised three children. During his banking career, he and Verna moved around the Maritimes until they settled in Halifax, NS. After a long career Dad finally retired at the age of 79.

Dad was a passionate hockey enthusiast, spending his youth playing hockey and later spending many evenings cheering on his favourite teams. In 1948 Dad was on the Windsor Royals Juvenile Hockey Team which was inducted onto the Birthplace of Hockey Hall of Fame.

An avid golfer in his younger days, he could often be found perfecting his swing on the green. He enjoyed a good game of crib. He had a sharp mind and enjoyed completing crossword puzzles, always using a pen without hesitation. Dad was always quick to joke about life and the state of the world.

Predeceased by his wife Verna and daughter Dawn Lee Tufts.

Survived by daughter Cheryl Hornsby (Donald Hornsby), son Michael Hood (Kaylee Wallage), son-in-law Jimmy Tufts, Grandsons Jeffrey Liberatore & Steven Hood, Granddaughters, Kenzie Hood, Jessica & Delaney Wallage and a host of other relatives and friends who will dearly miss him.

Dad will be fondly remembered for his kindness and unwavering love for his family. Donations to honour Percy’s life can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. At the request of our father, no service will be held.

Condolences to Cheryl and Michael and all the grandkids, I am sorry for your loss. I loved spending time with my uncle and aunt, Perce and Verna when I was kid, they were so kind and coming to the city was special. I feel lucky that he was my uncle when growing up.

Percy was Dawns (my bonus Moms) father. My memories of Percy are lovely to say the least, he always showed by at Holiday gatherings with his sports coat on & the biggest most welcoming smile for everyone. He loved my Dad & always treated my sister & I like family. RIP Percy. Tell Dawn how much we miss her ❤️

Perce was a favourite uncle of mine. I so enjoyed visiting he and Verna where ever they lived and especially on Main Avenue. I babysat their children Dawn, Cheryl and Michael when I was training for my course in Halifax. Visits were rare in recent years but it was always good to catch up. My condolances to his family.
