Obituary For Eleanor Gay Kennedy
It is with heavy hearts that the family announce the passing of Eleanor Gay Kennedy, a beloved mother, sister, aunt, and friend, on March 17, 2026. Born in December 1955, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Gay was the daughter of the late Sydney Riggs Kennedy and Eleanor Archibald Fairn Kennedy. Her journey through life was marked by love, laughter, and an indomitable spirit. Gay was predeceased by her parents and her brother Derek Kennedy, and step-father Rear-Admiral William Moss Landymore (ret’d).
Gay is survived by her much-loved son, Morgan McKay, who was her pride, joy and support. Gay also leaves her sister Krista (Eric)Phillips, her brother Craig Kennedy (Donna Touchie) and sister-in-law Barbara Kennedy, her nephews, Alex Kennedy, Colin, Ben, and Cameron McGregor, and niece, Anna Kennedy, and dear friend of more than five decades, Dana Publicover.
Gay attended Mount St. Vincent University, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. Her years working at The Misty Moon Cabaret were filled with camaraderie, where her vibrant personality shone brightly. The friendships she forged over those years continued throughout the remainder of her life. She worked for many years with the Federal public service, with Transport Canada and the Department of National Defence.
Those who knew Gay will remember her for her sharp wit and unfailing humor—a spirited personality that could light up any room. Even as she faced long years of illness, her spark never dimmed. She lived with a fierce determination and was driven by passion and conviction. She embraced life and those she held dear with a fervent intensity, creating bonds that will endure beyond her passing. As we celebrate Gay's life, we remember her strength but also the warmth and laughter she brought into our lives. Her legacy is one of love, resilience, and an unyielding spirit.
A Celebration of Her Life will be held to honour Gay on Monday, April 6, 2026 at 4 pm at Jenny’s Place on Lady Hammond Road, Halifax. The family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Gay’s memory.
Condolences
