Obituary For Ronald "Ron" Hugh Gillis

With great sadness the family of Ronald (Ron) Hugh Gillis of Halifax announce the passing of our last brother.

Ron leaves sisters to morn: Hughina Parmiter (Halifax), Mary Jane Barkhouse (Chester), Donna Methot, (Dartmouth); Monica Gillis, Ave Miceli, Marion Frazer and Lee Rumowicz (all in Florida).

Predeceased by father, Hugh Gillis (Cape Breton), and mother Elizabeth (Wells) Cape Breton; brothers: Thomas, Michael, James, John-Hugh, Neil, and sisters: Theresa, Jane, Joan, Nora and Elizebeth-Ann.

Ron was a very gentle soul who showed kindness and peace to all, “Love you anyway” he would say. No matter what, he was always thankful, appreciative and happy to see you. Ron shared many great laughs with everyone.

Having a few artistic hobbies, Ron enjoyed listening to music, especially the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, playing autistic guitar and the harmonica. He enjoyed painting and writing poetry. He was an avid reader of religious and spiritual texts that showed in his nature. Having read books such as: The Bible, Love is Patient and Kind, Angel of Light, Visions of God, Give Peace a Chance, and Terry Fox and The Story of Hope to name a few.

Ron has said “I’ve had a good life.” Ron leaves behind a legacy of grace. He will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed.

Many thanks to the absolutely fabulous staff at Parkston Enhanced Care who loved Ron’s sense of humor and easy-going nature. They made sure his last years were made easy.

It was a pleasure to know Ron. He really was a gentle, kind, soft spoken soul. I enjoyed having him at programs. He was always willing and ready to play a game of axe throwing, or ladder ball. My condolences to the family.
