Obituary For Shelly Margaret Caldwell

Shelly C. Caldwell, 59, of Antigonish, NS, passed away unexpectedly at Mahone’s Bay, NS, on August 8, 2022.

Shelly was a person of many interests and passions. She loved sports, music and art and inherited a lifetime passion for pets from her mother raising a succession of beloved feline friends over the years. As a teenager in high school, she developed an interest in sports joining orienteering. Later she fell in love with soccer, a passion that lasted into her university years and beyond. Her sister-in-law introduced her to Cricket and she fell in love with that game too. Shelly was also interested in photography and art and had practiced both for decades teaching herself to capture amazing photographs with her camera and creating beautiful and elaborate pencil drawings of wildlife when a photo just wasn’t enough. She once dreamed of being in a band, learning, annoyingly, to play the drums as a child before transitioning to more soothing keyboards and violin. Thankfully. Quieter pursuits included cross-stitching and quilting, yet more avenues to express her creative side, and a fascination with young English wizards and a certain globetrotting professor of religious symbology.

Born and raised in Nova Scotia, she was educated at St. Mary’s University and spent most of her adult life in Halifax. In more recent years, she explored different pastures, living in both Charlottetown, PEI and Ottawa, ON before returning to Nova Scotia.

She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Predeceased by her mother, Margaret Caldwell, she is survived by brother, Derrald Caldwell (Donnamae), their children Iaen and Jade, all of Ottawa, ON, (all of whom will also desperately miss the deserts she used to bring to family gatherings), Aunts and Uncles Alice and Myles Somers of Antigonish and Joan and Joe Johnson, of New York.

In accordance with Shelly’s wishes there will be no visitation. Service and burial will be at a later date. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made online to the PEI Humane Society.

My cousin Shelly always made me laugh and smile because she was really funny. We spent many holidays together and she gave great advice on anything I was going through. She was fun to hang out with and I always looked forward to seeing her either on PEI or in NS. She even drew me a picture of a bird once and I'll treasure that forever. I'll miss you, Cuz Have fun with Nanny oxox Until we meet again
