Obituary For Winifred Kathleen Edwards (Hiltz)

Age 95, Bedford passed away July 29, 2022, Halifax Infirmary. Born in Kentville February 17,1927 to Laurie W. Hiltz and Gertrude (Parks). Win excelled in High School (KCA) winning top honours and attended Nursing training at the Halifax Infirmary in 1946.

She married her high school sweetheart Murray in 1948 and embraced navy life for 25 years serving in Esquimalt, BC, Point Edward, Cape Breton and Halifax.

In the 70’s Win was an active member of UCT Ladies and held the role as Chaplain for 7 years. She chaired the fundraising committee raising funds for CAMR. A lifelong member of the Liberal Party, Win advocated for Women and Children’s rights. Win, a devoted homemaker, re-entered the workforce in 1979 in sales at D’Allairds, where she earned a wonderful reputation for fashion and customer service. She retired in 1993 to care for her husband and grandson.

Win, also known as Queen Rah, was predeceased by her husband Murray and her sister Marion. She is survived by her 3 children Darryl (Yvonne), Laurie (Bryan) and Jeffry (Tracey) along with grandchildren Amelia, Erik, Nicole, Myles and Jennifer, great grandchildren Hailey and Theo and her sister-in-law Wendy Rees.

The funeral will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday August 9th at the Bedford United Church. Burial will be at a later date.
