Janie Elizabeth Herridge (Hancock)

On August 27, 2026, Janie Elizabeth Herridge from Pool’s Cove, Newfoundland passed away peacefully at the age of 98 at Arborstone Enhanced Care with her loving family and staff by her side.

She was a Christian woman of great faith and was a member of the Salvation Army from the age of 18. She had a gift for praying, which she did publicly at church services and with fellow residents and staff at Arborstone when called upon.

Janie loved people and always had a smile and a hug for everyone. In her early years, she worked at Moir’s Chocolate Factory. She and her husband Hughie enjoyed spending time at their cottage on Piggott Lake. They loved to entertain family and friends both at the cottage and at home. The kettle was always on for a “mug up” to anyone dropping by.

Janie is survived by son Alvin (Carolyn), daughter Elvina Wright (Ken), grandsons Nicholas (Lindsay); Dustin (Skye); Jordan (Kaylie); Jeremy Wright; Ashley Wright (Charles); great grandchildren Rebecca, Rachael, Charlotte, Alex, Jacob, Kailey and many nieces and nephews.

Janie was predeceased by her loving husband Hughie, her parents Charles and Elvina Hancock (Bambury), brothers James, Allan and Joseph.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Arborstone Enhanced Care, 4th Floor, for their loving care with Mom and the kind support they provided to the family.

Cremation has taken place, and a private family memorial will be held.
