Obituary For John Cameron Walker

It is with heavy hearts and deep sorrow, we share the passing of John Cameron Walker on July 13, 2023 in Dartmouth NS, at the age of 84. John was the oldest son of Wiliam and Jessie (Roberts) Walker.

John had a great love for his family, the outdoors and travel adventures with his wife Joan and life-long friends Garry and Sterling Woods. Spending many years with Scouts Canada and being the neighbourhood Dad, he was always approachable and provided a solid influence in many young lives. After a 30-year career with Lafarge Canada, his next chapter was spent as proprietor of The Foley House Inn in Maitland, NS. His friendly smile and evident love of Nova Scotia welcomed many people from around the world. He loved to share his knowledge of the Province and could often be found on the front porch, with a wee dram, mapping out potential routes and points of interest.

Never in a rush, John would calmly go about his days while humming the tune of a song nobody knew. This was the soundtrack to his life and it will forever linger in the ears of those that loved him.

John will be missed deeply by his wife of 60 years Joan (Morrison), their children; Ian, Cyndi (Jason) and Jennifer (Scott) Gildemeester. His beloved grandchildren Zach Walker (Jenn), Jessie Marusova (Pavel), Samuel Walker-Hiltz (Amy) and Lee Gildemeester. Great grandchildren Sienna Nylund and Audrey Walker-Hiltz. He is also survived by his brother Billy (Vancouver BC). Predeceased by his parents and son-in-law Graham Hiltz.

An open house will be held to share stories and celebrate his life on Thursday July 20th from 6-8pm at Banook Woods, 30 Brookdale Crescent, Dartmouth.

Forever our P.O.D., your calm, supportive and loving nature will forever be cherished and missed by your family and those fortunate enough to have known Johnny Walker.

To Joan, Ian, Cyndi, JJ and families. My greatest sympathies to you. I will always remember John and how he became a much needed father figure after my own fathers passing. He was always full of calm advice and had loads of patience with the hooligans (us) that raided his house. Lots of love John, Andrew Clark
