Obituary For Keelan Leslie Cook

It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Keelan Leslie Cook, at the young age of 39.

He leaves behind his greatest pride and love, his son Austin, who was truly his world. Keelan’s love for his son was at the heart of who he was, and the memories they created together will forever remain a part of Austin’s life. Though Austin has lost his father far too soon, the love Keelan had for him will never be lost.

Keelan will also be deeply missed by his mother, Shelann; his father, Dave; and his stepmother, Bev. He leaves behind his sisters, Lisa and Kaylie, as well as his very close friend and chosen sister, Cheyanne. He will also be deeply missed by Danielle, Austin’s mother and a woman who held a deeply special place in Keelan’s heart. Their love was a significant chapter of his life, and although their relationship changed with time, the bond they shared never disappeared. Together, they gave each other their greatest gift, Austin, and through him created a family connection that remained a meaningful part of Keelan’s life.

Keelan will also be forever missed by Ashley, who he chose to share his life, his heart, and his future with. He found in her a deep and lasting love, and though their time together was far too short, the love they shared was the kind that lasts a lifetime, and beyond.

He will forever hold a special place in the hearts of his nieces Payton, Autumn, and Brooklyn, and his nephews Braxton and Kayson, who will carry their memories of him with them always.

Keelan was a proud member of the Royal Canadian Navy and served as a Marine Technician/Hull Technician. The Navy was more than a career to him; it was a part of who he was. He loved the sea, the camaraderie, and the pride that came with working with his hands and knowing how to fix, build, and make things work.

Outside of the Navy, one of his greatest passions was hockey, and he loved playing softball with his friends and family. Whether he was playing, watching, talking about the game, or simply enjoying time with those around him, sports were something that brought him happiness.

Those who knew Keelan will remember his hands-on nature, his passion for hockey, and, most importantly, the love he had for his family and the people closest to him. He was deeply loved, and his absence will leave a space that can never truly be filled.

Although his life was far too short, the memories he created and the love he gave will remain with those who knew him. His son Austin will always know how deeply he was loved, and his family will carry his memory forward for generations to come.

A service celebrating Keelan’s life will be held at St. Bendan’s Chapel, CFB Halifax, on September 20, 2026. Service times and further details will be shared at a later time.

    In Loving Memory of Keelan Keelan, you certainly left your mark on this world—from the west coast to the east coast of Canada. You were always a go-getter, full of determination and passionate about whatever you put your heart into. When you set your mind to something, you went after it. And that big heart of yours was there from the very beginning. When you were little, you couldn't resist giving our son Jamie endless a hugs. In fact, you hugged him for so long that we eventually had to tell you, "Okay, Keelan... you can let go now!" 😂 You were simply filled with so much love, and you weren't afraid to show it. You were also one heck of a hockey player, and I know how incredibly proud your mom was of you. We were fortunate to watch some games. She loved watching you play and was always so proud to call you her son. And then there was your hamster... I hope you'll forgive me for the time your hamster was happily cruising around the floor in its little playball and I accidentally kicked it as I walked by. That poor hamster went rolling across the floor like a tiny tornado! Thankfully, it survived the trauma—and, hopefully, eventually forgave me too. 😂 I will always treasure the stories your mom told me about the annual April Fools' jokes she played on you. I can only imagine your reactions! Those memories say so much about the special relationship the two of you shared. She loved you unconditionally, and that love was always so clear. Keelan, 39 years is far too short a time, but in those years you touched many lives and created memories that will never be forgotten. From your big hugs as a little boy, to hockey, adventures across Canada, April Fools' pranks and that poor hamster taking a wild ride across the floor—you left behind plenty of stories, plenty of laughter, and, most of all, plenty of love. You will be deeply missed, Keelan. Rest easy. You've left your mark on this world, and you will forever hold a place in the hearts of those who knew and loved you. ❤️ Much love, Kim Miller

    My name is Chris Hoyt and I attended Bellwood in Toronto with Keelan . When I arrived at Bellwood I had a list of conditions stemming from cptsd I was lost , alone and far away from my children who are my world Keelan was one of the first individuals to show me genuine kindness caring and most importantly at that time honest friendship . Keelan had restarted the wings of change group for military and first responders who met once a week to share their stories thoughts and feelings it would help to normalize out PTSD together and made you realize your really not alone . Keelan started the Bellwood program before I did but when he left he entrusted me the privilege of carrying on the group which I proudly did . That little gesture instilled so much positive energy and helped to strengthen my character and was a big part of my recovery . Also Keelan invited me to participate in the remembrance day ceremony I felt honored to walk beside him . Keelan had such a kind and caring way which truly helped many people at Bellwood I'm sure . My sincerest condolences he was a great friend and gone far too soon 😢 💜.
