Obituary For Maria Giannakos

It is with heavy hearts and sadness we announce the sudden passing of Maria on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 in her home in Halifax, NS at the age of 59.

Born in Halifax, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Helen (Bravakis) Koutroulakis.

Maria was a beautiful soul and woman both on the inside and outside. She put a smile on everyone's face with her sense of humour and friendliness whether they were family, friends or strangers. She was kind, loyal, humble and very proud of her family roots.

An avid cook and gardener, she also had artistic talents such as drawing, writing, painting and wood carving. She also enjoyed travelling to many destinations with her husband John.

She attended Queen Elizabeth High School and after graduation she worked in the family business for a few years and later was employed in retail with The Hudson's Bay Company as a supervisor in various departments. Years later, she joined her husband in his family business in Lower Sackville until 2014. She also volunteered for many years at the annual Greek Fest assisting with the preparation up to and including the actual event.

Maria is survived by her husband John, her sister Anna, her niece Joanna, her nephew and Godson Zafiris, and her nephew and Godson Redmond, Godsons Stavros and Savas, Goddaughter Theodora and her fur baby Trinity. Also, many cousins and relatives both in Halifax and in Greece.

She will be missed and will always be loved. May your memory be eternal.

For those wishing to make a donation, they can make a donation to Saint George's Greek Orthodox Church, Halifax, NS or to a charity of their choice.

A private burial service will be held on Monday, May 10, 2021.
