It is much with much sadness, that we announce the passing of Dr. John Ronald (Ron) Muir, age 86 at the Parkland at the Lakes residence on Wednesday, July 20th, 2022. Ron was the son of the late Hugh Carmond and Maisie Marguerite (Smith) Muir.

Dr. Muir is survived by his brother Lloyd Muir, Vancouver, B.C., his sister Phyllis Meadows, Elmwood, P.E.I., and his brother Gerald Muir, Westville, N.S. He was a beloved uncle to his six nieces and nephews; Heather Rossi, Michael Meadows, Jennifer Muir, Alison Peters, Suzanne Muir, and Karen Hodge.

Ron was born in New Glasgow and raised in Westville, Nova Scotia. He aspired to greatness from a young age and achieved the highest honour in the Boy Scouts of Canada, the Queen’s Scout. An avid student, he attended Westville High School and then spent three years at Mount Allison University for pre-med before going on to finish his medical degree at Dalhousie University.

A resident of Dartmouth, he worked at the Woodlawn Medical Clinic and held privileges at Dartmouth General Hospital. He was devoted to his patients and highly respected by his colleagues. Known for his kindness, sage advice, great sense of humour he was steadfastly loyal and committed to family.

Ron loved spending time in Mexico his home away from home. He loved travel and spent time in New York, London and Scotland where he researched the Muir family history. He was an avid antiques collector and has donated several pieces to local museums. He loved driving his red 1969 Corvette, and gardening at his lakeside home.

We would like to thank the staff at Parkland at the Lakes, for the incredible care they extended to Ron over these past years.

There will be a Celebration of Life on August 4th at 11:00 am at the Walker Donald K Funeral Home, 11 Akerley Blvd #800, Dartmouth, NS. A private family interment will follow in Westville, N.S., where he will be laid to rest in the St. Philips Cemetery.

I was saddened to learn of Ron's passing. Our family goes back a very long way with Ron. He worked at Keltic Lodge when my dad was the manager there, in fact, we were both bell-boys for a summer. Ron went on to be our family Dr. for many year's until he retired. His care for our mum & dad was something one could only dream about in this tumoultous time. When my family moved back to Dartmouth some 40 years ago he became our family Dr. once again until he retirement. My wife Denyse would talk of "Ron" & what he did for mum & dad so often I thought she would want to bring him into the family.! I know he was interested in aniques as I was & we had lot's of chats about the local market, in fact, I think I once found him a piece of Alice Hagen pottery of which he had a very signicant collection & it no doubt went to the museum. My wife Denyse joins me along with the whole Irwin clan in passing along our deepest sympathies to the Muir family in the loss of such a very special person! Sincerely, Gerry Irwin
