Obituary For Gordon Foster Irving PO1 Ret

It is with great sorrow and a broken heart that I announce the passing of my husband, Gordon Irving at the age of 83. Born in Toronto, Ontario he was the son of the late Robert Irving [Toronto] and the late Doris [Gill] Irving [England].

"I have had 3 loves in my life, my loving wife, Chris, the RCN, serving on my beloved Bonaventure and being born and raised in Toronto's Cabbagetown, two of the best groundings a man could have in life."

"I have had many hobbies in life quilting, embroidery, woodcarving and for over 20 years baking 500 lbs. of Christmas Cakes a year. I had a great life."

After retiring from the Military, he joined the Commissionaires, working for Camp Hill Hospital, Dept. of Fisheries and The Halifax Dartmouth Bridge Commission where he was commended for his innovations. One of his proudest moments after retirement was a letter he received from the Navy requesting his service back in at the age of 71.

"I am survived by my loving wife, Christina [Chris] Goldie-Irving, 3 sons, Bruce, David, Paul and daughter Stephanie. 6 grandchildren, great grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews."

Predeceased by brothers Ronnie, Robert, Bruce [best friend and brother] and Allan and two sisters-in-law Yvonne and June.

"My last wish is to be cremated and my ashes spread behind the Bonaventure Anchor at Point Pleasant Park."

At this time I would like to thank the paramedics, Emergency Room Doctors and Nurses, Dr. Min Lee, Sister Joanna, who prayed with us at his bedside, for the kindness, love and respect shown to both of us at our time of need. And to Mr. Donald K. Walker for his help in preparing Gord for his last journey home to his Mom, Dad and best friend and brother Bruce.
