Obituary For Philip Karl Jack

Jack, Philip Karl

Phil passed away peacefully in the palliative care unit at Victoria General at the age of 63 on October 6, 2022. Born in Halifax to Karl and the late Jean (Walker) Jack, Phil has lived in many places during his life, namely Halifax, Dartmouth, and Lower Sackville.

Phil enjoyed cars, dedicating a good chunk of his life to being a mechanic. He loved driving them and working on them and was always ready to go for a drive down along the coast. He loved the ocean and was never far from it. Phil adored walking the many beaches along Nova Scotia’s coast, scaling the rocks at Peggy’s Cove, and when able cruising along the water in his boat.

Known for his friendliness and Jack family stubbornness, Phil was a character. He loved music, both listening to and making it, and could often be found strumming his guitar. He was a doting father, not only to his children, but also to the many cats that have been parts of the family.

Even with a terminal diagnosis of pancreatic cancer, Phil remained stubborn throughout. Even with limited mobility, he could not be stopped. He would do anything from building a deck to fixing a neighbor’s boat and was not going to let cancer stop him. Against all odds, Phil kept living life to the fullest for two years after a diagnosis of two months, before going into palliative care and finally passing away. These past two years were filled with family, love and adventure.

The family extends their gratitude to the doctors and nurses in the palliative care unit who made sure Phil was comfortable throughout his stay.

Phil is survived by his children, Finley and Jessica Jack, his two siblings, Linda (Jack) Brine (Murray Brine) and Mervin Jack (Christine Jack), and his niece and nephews Darren and David Dares, and Colton and Emily Jack.

At his request, there will be no service. Phil’s ashes will be scattered in the ocean, according to his wishes.

I was very sad to learn of Phil's passing.I got to know Phil as a "brother" along with Merven and Fred Webster, other brothers who hung out at our parents house on Duncan St many a year ago with my brother David Thomas. There was always lively conversation and antics when the boys were present. My parents considered Phil a member of the extended family as did we all. Please accept my deepest condolences on Phillip's passing. I shall keep all of his family and friends in my thoughts and prayers at this most difficult time. Lynn Thomas Bauld
