Obituary For Barbara Ruth Hope

Ruth Hope (74), a proud Cape Bretoner, passed away at her home in Halifax on Monday Oct 26th, 2020. The daughter of Ralph and Isabelle Beaton, Ruth was born in Baddeck and grew up in Coxheath, Nova Scotia. Ruth worked notably as the owner and manager of Hope's Convenience in Elmvale Ontario. Ruth was a lover of all animals and had a strong connection to her home on the East Coast. Ruth's sharp wit was well appreciated by those who knew her. She was an accomplished homemaker who loved to bake and sew, creating a home that was always warm and welcoming. Ruth's tea biscuits were legendary and many friends would hope to acquire the secret recipe enjoyed by so many over the years. Ruth is survived by her husband Tony Hope, daughter Kelly Hope (Jason Martell), son Darrin Gillmore, sisters Debbie Miles (Darrell) , Cindy Beaton and Marion Hannan, and was pre deceased by her son Murray Bauer (Holly) and brother Carleton Beaton. Ruth had many nieces and nephews, coast to coast.

There will be no memorial service. Cremation has taken place.

Memorial donations may be made in Ruth's name to the Guinea Pig Sanctuary-Kitchener https://gpsguineapigs.wixsite.com/kitchener/donate or to any animal related organization.

Rest in Peace, Caper209

Ruth was a kind and gentle person, and I was lucky to have her in my life as a lovely aunt. I have so many fond memories of spending time with her and Uncle Tony. Ruth made me many beautiful handmade gifts over the years including a very special Christmas stocking that I have been hanging and using since I was a small child. I will continue to treasure these gorgeous reminders of Ruth and the time we were able to spend together. Love and hugs to Tony, Kelly, and Darrin.

At Coronation Masonic Lodge in Elmvale are beautiful table cloths in the Lodge's banquet room that were made by Ruth. They will be a lasting memory of her. Both she and Tony were such a large part of the Elmvale community. My condolences to the Hope family.
