Obituary For Charles Ervin Ellis Rutt

Charles Ervin Ellis Rutt

May 1941 - March 14, 2026, 84, of New Minas, Nova Scotia passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 14, 2026.

Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, in May of 1941 to Charles Erwin Ellis Rutt and Catherine Merle (Canning), Charles spent his early years in Springhill Junction after his father was transferred overseas during the war. He was educated in the Nova Scotia school system, graduating in 1959, and later attended Dalhousie University.

Charles lived a full and meaningful life centered on family, community, and service. He began his career working with both the Federal and Provincial Governments, later moving into the insurance and furniture moving industries. He eventually returned to federal service with Canada Post and Statistics Canada, retiring in the early 1990's. Following retirement, he continued working in the auto industry with Manheim Auto Auctions, where he remained employed for many years.

A devoted and loving family man, Charles took immense pride in his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his four children, Christine (Geoff Tom), Doug (Krista), Elizabeth (Ian Corkum), and Paula (Kevin Richardson). He will be deeply missed by his cherished grandchildren: Cameron Blom, Hannah, Megan, and Keegan Richardson, Callum Corkum, Katie, Emily, Allie and Caleb Rutt. He is also survived by his siblings, Carole Gobeille, Laurence Rutt and Gloria Horton. Charles is also lovingly remembered by his longtime companion, Patricia and her children, Stephen and Lynn, who were like his own. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister Charleen McFetridge.

Charles was very active in his community and church, serving on numerous committees and projects. A lifelong sports enthusiast, he remained active even after his playing days by coaching local community and high school teams. He also took an active role in the political process, serving as President of both Federal and Provincial ridings.

A proud member of the Masonic Lodge where he belonged to many different bodies, Charles valued the friendships and sense of community these organizations brought to his life. He will be remembered for his kindness, his quiet strength, and his unwavering dedication to family and community.
