Obituary For Diane Parnell Shatford
It is with deep sadness that the family of Diane Parnell Shatford, age 83, announces her peaceful passing on May 2, 2026, with her daughter by her side.
Diane was a long-time resident of Glen Margaret, Nova Scotia. She moved to Parkland in 2020 and most recently lived in Mill Village, Queens County.
Born in Halifax, Diane was the beloved daughter of the late Lionel and Pearl (McKinnon) Fralick.
Diane shared 59 wonderful years with her husband and best friend, Allan. Together they built their dream home, raised a family, and filled their lives with adventures. Whether snowmobiling, trout fishing, sailing, fine dining, travelling the world, shopping at Costco, or simply reading side by side, they lived life to its fullest.
Despite a life rich in joy, Diane faced profound challenges with bravery and strength. The losses of their youngest daughter Andrea and, just two years ago, their son Gregory were devastating. Diane was an avid reader who devoured books at a remarkable pace. In later years she embraced e-readers and proudly “burned through” several Kobos. She possessed a keen interest and sharp memory for community and family history, carefully archiving family memorabilia. She loved meeting people and was genuinely interested in their stories. She enjoyed good food and drink, lively games of cards, and laughter with friends and family.
Above all, Diane cherished her family. Though she could be stubborn and firm in her advice, she was their biggest cheerleader and strongest supporter.
She cultivated many long-lasting friendships staying connected with dear friends, and extended family for decades. In her later years, she treasured phone conversations filled with reminiscing about days gone by.
Diane was predeceased by her devoted husband Allan; her youngest daughter, Andrea K. Redmond; her son, Gregory A. Shatford (Roseanna); her brother, Graham Fralick (Dianne); and her parents-in-law, Fred and Hazel (Moser) Shatford, as well as her own parents.
She is survived by her daughter, Victoria (Scott) Conrad; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and Toby, her loyal canine companion of the past six months.
In accordance with Diane’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A gathering of family and friends will be held at a later date.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the Mill Village first responders, paramedics, RCMP, and Dr. Rachel Doucette for their compassionate care.
Special appreciation is also given to Diane’s dear friends Dorothy, Sandra, and Marie.
