It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Keelan Leslie Cook, at the young age of 39.

He leaves behind his greatest pride and love, his son Austin, who was truly his world. Keelan’s love for his son was at the heart of who he was, and the memories they created together will forever remain a part of Austin’s life. Though Austin has lost his father far too soon, the love Keelan had for him will never be lost.

Keelan will also be deeply missed by his mother, Shelann; his father, Dave; and his stepmother, Bev. He leaves behind his sisters, Lisa and Kaylie, as well as his very close friend and chosen sister, Cheyanne. He will also be deeply missed by Danielle, Austin’s mother and a woman who held a deeply special place in Keelan’s heart. Their love was a significant chapter of his life, and although their relationship changed with time, the bond they shared never disappeared. Together, they gave each other their greatest gift, Austin, and through him created a family connection that remained a meaningful part of Keelan’s life.

Keelan will also be forever missed by Ashley, who he chose to share his life, his heart, and his future with. He found in her a deep and lasting love, and though their time together was far too short, the love they shared was the kind that lasts a lifetime, and beyond.

He will forever hold a special place in the hearts of his nieces Payton, Autumn, and Brooklyn, and his nephews Braxton and Kayson, who will carry their memories of him with them always.

Keelan was a proud member of the Royal Canadian Navy and served as a Marine Technician/Hull Technician. The Navy was more than a career to him; it was a part of who he was. He loved the sea, the camaraderie, and the pride that came with working with his hands and knowing how to fix, build, and make things work.

Outside of the Navy, one of his greatest passions was hockey, and he loved playing softball with his friends and family. Whether he was playing, watching, talking about the game, or simply enjoying time with those around him, sports were something that brought him happiness.

Those who knew Keelan will remember his hands-on nature, his passion for hockey, and, most importantly, the love he had for his family and the people closest to him. He was deeply loved, and his absence will leave a space that can never truly be filled.

Although his life was far too short, the memories he created and the love he gave will remain with those who knew him. His son Austin will always know how deeply he was loved, and his family will carry his memory forward for generations to come.

A service celebrating Keelan’s life will be held at St. Bendan’s Chapel, CFB Halifax, on September 20, 2026. Service times and further details will be shared at a later time.
