Obituary For Lloyd (Sam) Samual Rendell

Age 72, passed away suddenly on October 7 at the Halifax Infirmary with brothers Ray and Keith by his side.

Born in Cartwright, Labrador, Sam was the son of the late George and Flora (Bird) Rendell. Sam grew up on the Shore Road in Eastern Passage and in his youth, he played many sports, especially hockey. The New England Patriots and Toronto Maple Leafs will always remind us of Sam. Sam loved listening to music, especially Dutch Mason, dancing, playing board games, socializing and reading.

There are many stories of Sam and his brother, Keith, cruising in and around Halifax Harbour. Episodes on the “Ship of Fools” are legendary such as losing anchors and floating away from the dock in EP with Keith’s dog. Other chapters in Sam’s life include “The Pickle Barrell” at the Crick and “The Lily Front” in Lunenburg.

At family gatherings, there was always lots of laughter when Sam told stories. (What was true was often questionable!) His greatest joy was being with his nephews and their children. Sam had a heart of gold. He touched the lives of many people and will be truly missed.

The family would like to acknowledge the wonderful care by the staff at Precision Health Group and his good friends Jack M. and Kevin T.

Sam is survived by his sister Verna Senchuk, brothers, Ray(Melanie) and Keith(Agnes) Rendell. Nephews Tyler Senchuk(Mernie) their son Anthony (BC); Jamie(Michelle) their children Tori and Chelsea Rendell; Kevin(Nicole) their children Riley and Maia Rendell; Trevor (Jessica Best) Rendell; Jesse Rendell; sister-in-law Ellen Philips; Niece Leslie(Shawn) Rodgers their children Ethan and Addison, ON; many cousins and his former wife, Barb Finlay. He was predeceased by his parents, brother Greg, brother-in-law Reg and nephew Lee Senchuk.

A celebration of life will be held at The Buffalo Club, 625 Cow Bay Rd., Eastern Passage, Saturday, October 17 at 2 p.m. where friends and family can share memories. Provincial COVID-19 protocols will be in place for your safety. Wearing a mask until seated is mandatory.

Memorial donations can be made to a charity of choice.

I was notified of Sams passing by a friend in Halifax. My condolences to Sam's family. Sam was best man at my wedding in 1977. I moved to Vancouver soon after and lost touch over the years. But Sam was fun to be with and we shared many a drink together. Wish I had seen him one more time.
