Obituary For Sylvia Maria Tully

It is with great sadness that the family announce the passing of Sylvia “Sally” Tully (nee Martin), 95, of Halifax, NS on April 3, 2025.

Sally was the daughter of the late Albert Martin and Elma Martin and was also predeceased by her much-loved husband, Victor, and daughter, Cynthia Tully, sister Margret, and brothers Albert Jr., William Howard, and Kenneth. She is survived by her granddaughters Katherine Lee Peters and Alison Peters, great grandsons Roman and Jackson, and many nieces and nephews.

Sally was a very special person and much loved by all. She was genuinely kind and remarkably funny. She loved to travel, always enjoyed hosting beautiful family Christmas gatherings at their residence and spending time with Victor, family and friends at their South Shore cottage. Sally will be missed by her entire family, especially Phyllis. Sally & Phyllis met when they were just 16 years of age. They were close friends and, later in life, Phyllis married into the Martin family and became Sally’s sister-in-law and enjoyed many years of family gatherings together.

Family celebrated Sally’s life on April 11, 2025 at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville, NS

Aunt Sally was my mother's (Marj) best friend. They worked together at the N.S. Department of Highways office and (so I am told) were always getting into trouble pulling pranks on their bosses. On our last trip to our family cottage I remember Sally singing 'Morning has Broken' at daybreak. That song will always remind me of her. In previous trips to the cottage I was told by her daughter, Cynthia, that Marj and Sally liked to float around the lake on their inflatable pool floats grasping their cocktails. Apparently young Cynthia was in charge of refilling glasses when the floats approached the shore. Sally was a lovely lady and I will miss her greatly.
