Obituary For John McSween

Age 75, of Cole Harbour passed away at home on December 8, 2021. Born in Bonnyton, Kilmarnock, Scotland on January 17, 1946, he was the son of the late John and Helen (Kerr) McSween.

John joined the Royal Canadian Navy when he was 17 years old, transferring to the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1972. He retired in 1992 following a 29 year career as an air engine/avionics technician and instructor, having attained the rank of Warrant Officer. He was grateful for the privilege of serving his country. He loved his career and he was beloved by the men with whom he served. After he retired from the Armed Forces, he worked in the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires for over 2 decades. When he retired from his second career, he was free to dedicate his life to what he truly loved – his faith and family: John was a devoted grandfather (grandad). He attended every event: soccer, hockey, swimming. He spent as much time as he could with his grandchildren. They were truly his greatest joy in life. He had a special bond with each of them. Grandad was their best friend and he spent his last days almost exclusively in the company of his youngest grandson, Demetrius: Demetrius and grandad referred to one another as “best friends”. John was predeceased by his son Steven and is survived by his son Sean (Jan), his daughter Amanda (Josh) McSween, seven brothers and two sisters in Western Canada, and by his beloved grandchildren, Tyus, Daya, and Demetrius. He will be greatly missed.
