Obituary For Myrtle Beatrice White

WHITE, Myrtle Beatrice, Parkland (Kinross Hall) Dartmouth formerly of Noel, NS passed away peacefully on March 6th 2023, at the age of 88, just shy of her 89th birthday on March 12th while she yodeled her way to the other side!

She was born on March 12th,1934 in Brookside, NS. She was the daughter of the late Cyril and Greta (Wallfield) Parks, Noel. She is survived by her son, Michael (Leese) Saint John; daughters, Jo-Anne (Don) Dickson, Noel; Kimberley (Bill) Quilty, Bedford. 8 grandchildren, Matthew, Nick, Alison, Ashley, Andrew, Chris, Aaron and William; 8 great-grandchildren, Isabelle, Marcus, Emily, Aviana, William, Maleigha, Lily and Will. A brother Robert Parks (Judy), sister-in-law Joan (Jack) Parks; Emma (Philip) Brown; several nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by husband of 54 years Rawleigh, brother William Parks, sister-in-law Lona Joan Parks and brother, Jack Parks.

She was a member of the Noel United Church, UCW and sang in the choir. Myrtle was a schoolteacher for 30 years. She was dedicated to her profession and tried new and different methods to make learning more enjoyable for her students understanding early on that not all students learn the same way! She worked with several youth groups and was born an entertainer being able to play several instruments. She participated in “jam” sessions and right up until the end was entertaining on the grand piano for her new friends at Parkland Kinross Hall. Myrtle was known for her yodeling, whether you wanted to hear it or not!

Mom and Dad loved to dance, and a Saturday night dance was a must. They squared danced, clogged, did the hot polka, you name it, they danced it! They loved to camp and were seasonal campers at Evangeline Beach for many years, then purchased a little Boler and followed the Bluegrass festivals around the province. Mom and Dad traveled to Florida for over 30 years, and loved their camp in the West Woods, snowmobiling, darts, horseshoes, washer-toss, shuffleboard and all card games, especially Rumouli with her gal pals. She would often say, “The bigger the gang, the better!” Her motto was “no fools, no fun”. She was always busy and if things seemed dull she would soon get something going, usually meaning that Dad or son-in-law Don would have to do something to make that happen.

She loved her family and was very generous to others. Donations may be made to Noel United Church. Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held in another couple of months for both Mom and Dad and her request for a yodeling contest to see who will replace her!

Mom’s final thoughts….God has been good to me! I have had a wonderful life! A wonderful husband and family! I’m ready to go Dr. give me the drugs!

On behalf of our dear sweet Mother Myrtle, her wish is to be an advocate for those who do not know about MAID (Medical Assistance in Dying) in Nova Scotia. Her ask is for more Doctors to please step-up and volunteer to do this so patients and loved ones no longer have to wait for this service to take place, especially when the loved one has made the decision to move on. When she found out her options were risky surgery; wait to die in the hospital or MAID, she had no problem selecting MAID so she could leave this world on her terms with no pain or suffering!

Our very dear special thanks to Dr. Johnstone and Dr. Navaris for taking the time to sit, listen and share stories with Mom. Maid Doctors, Amy Nason and Heather Hunter for their dedication to volunteer to do this very important service. Also, to all the staff at Dartmouth General 3 East for treating her so well, thank you!

Our sincere condolences to everyone in Nova Scotia who knew Myrtle. As newcomers to the area after purchasing Myrtle's house in 2017, we quickly found out that we would happily be known as the folks in "Myrtle's old place". Rarely does a day go by where the mention of Myrtle's name to complete strangers from just about anywhere, resulted in huge smiles and heartfelt stories of how they knew Myrtle; usually about her life as a teacher or meeting her 'on the road' at the music festivals. We too, were immediately welcomed into 'her world' when we met her. A beautiful, lively soul with more energy than the two of us combined. We will both miss her dearly.

My last encounter with Myrtle was at the coffee shop in Kennetcook several years ago I was at the drive-thru window ready to pay and pick up my order when the employee at the window told me my order was paid for. I look up past the employee and notice Myrtle standing at the inside customer counter waving at me with her big smile, I wave right back with a big thank you She will be missed by many

  • 03/08/2023

We are sending our heartfelt condolences to the family, just now reading the news about Myrtle's illness and passing. We had a lovely visit with her in the summer of 2018 when she came to visit my Dad, Andrew, when he was ill. She was one of a kind. There was always lots of stories, laughter and great energy when she was around, with great conversation on endless topics, even the serious and difficult parts of life. It makes sense that she would be a strong advocate for MAID and it's comforting to know that she was able to have that, for herself and her family. Andrea Smith, and mother Gerry

On behalf of Jake and Gail Arscott... "We fondly remember Rollie and Myrtle at the dances. They were a force to be reckoned with on the dance floor. I (Jake) had the privilege of working with Rollie at Hants North and immensely enjoyed it. To the family and friends of this sparkplug of a woman, who lit up the room, just by walking in it, we extend to you our most sincere sympathy. You are in our hearts and prayers. Carry her legacy by always seeing the humor in every situation, by doing a jig for no reason and making other people feel so comfortable, as she did, in your presence. We know in our hearts that this beautiful woman has been reunited with her womderful husband. And are most likely doing the polka together in heaven. May Myrtle rest in peace, within the arms of Jesus. Sincerely, Jake and Gail.

We shared many "baseball camping trips" and she was always full of fun and very entertaining. I will never forget my trip to her Florida house. She saw me at Kim's and said "Paulette you should come with us" and off we went. What a wonderful time we had. She was so welcoming, gracious and made everything an adventure and fun. She will live on in your memories and your heart forever and always be with you. She is very happy now, I know with her beloved Raleigh and dancing in his loving arms once again. My deepest condolences to Myrtles' Family, and Friends. She was the most loved school teacher there ever was! I am so blessed to have had the privilege to be a student in her classroom; not only once but twice! She taught me in grade one and grade six! Myrtles' classroom was a place to learn and always a place for fun! We were always greeted with the "Good Morning Song!" and a HUGE smile! Oh so many songs, dances and little jingles we learned from her. Myrtle even had jingles to help us learn; "The provinces of Canada are fun to remember, fun to remember!" was a little jingle she whipped up! Myrtle made learning fun and easy! I catch myself singing them songs now and again; they have always made me think of her. Darn though, she forgot to teach us how to yodel, I will be no competition for the yodeling contest! So many fond memories in those classrooms that everyone will always hold dearly. A little piece of her is in all of us who had the pleasure of knowing her. There is no one in this world like your Mother. She was an exceptional woman and she will be with you forever.

Myrtle was my most favourite, funniest teacher in elementary. As I got older , I got to know her as an adult and she was the same old Myrtle. We always knew when Myrtle arrived at our daily coffee group, we'd hear her before seeing her. She'd be yodeling or singing as she opened the door. She certainly could "liven" up a room, and I'm sure she is partying up a storm today. My sincere condolences go out to all family .
