Obituary For Donna Lynne Walsh (Williams)

Donna Lynne Walsh (née Williams), born August 1947, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2026.

Born in Montreal, Donna spent much of her life in Ottawa before later moving to Halifax, where she cherished being close to her children and grandchildren—her greatest joy and proudest accomplishment.

Donna was a devoted childcare provider for 25 years whose warmth, patience, and steady presence shaped the lives of many families over the years. Outside of her work, she found happiness in creativity—especially cross stitch and jewelry making—often crafting pieces that will remain treasured by those who loved her.

She was known for speaking her mind with honesty and humor, carrying a wonderfully bawdy wit that could light up any room. She prided herself on her independence, her favourite song was Flowers by Miley Cyrus. Donna had a love for good food, beautiful clothes, and above all, the people she held dear.

She is lovingly remembered by her son David Walsh and his spouse Beth and her daughter Debbra Walsh-Poirier and her spouse Paul and her bonus son Matt Penny. As well as her grand children Clara, Ashlynn, Celeste, Harper, Gage, Nellie, and Avery. She will also be dearly missed by her best friend of 78 years Donna Atwood (Peter) her sister in law Debbie (Edward) and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Donna was predeceased by her first husband George, as well as her parents Leonard and Neyla, sisters Heather and Sherrill (Papa Smurf) and brother Edward and best friends Susan and Michèle Mercer.

She lived a full and vibrant life, rich with love, laughter, and strong connections. Though she will be deeply missed, there is comfort in knowing she is reunited with so many loved ones who were waiting for her on the other side.

Her memory and entertaining stories will live on in the hearts of her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

An informal service will be held in Montreal this summer where she will interred.

Condolences

Donna may not have been my blood relative but I considered her family. For almost 20 years we shared holiday meals and even a few vacations and I enjoyed everyone a little more because she was there. I am going to miss her wit and kind words. I send my deepest condolences and love to her family.
