Obituary For Ethel Oliver

Ethel Oliver, 79, of Halifax, Nova Scotia passed away peacefully on February 13.

Ethel, born in 1944 to Alice (Sutherland) and George Lloy (deceased) in Halifax, NS, immediately brought joy and laughter into the world. She enjoyed playing sports especially basketball in her youth. She worked as a clerk for Maritime Medical Care and as a student loan clerk for The Royal Bank where she created many long lasting friendships. Ethel made many friends throughout her life as a testament to her fun loving and social spirit. She was faithful and shared God’s love with everyone she met.

In 1978, she met Wayne Oliver and the two were inseparable from that point on. Ethel and Wayne were together for over 45 years and married in 2011. Ethel had 2 children from a previous marriage Rhonda (Dave Hewgill) and Paula.

Ethel was a fiercely dedicated mom to both her children, and a loving grandmother to her 3 grandchildren Hunter, (Rhonda, Dave) Tristan and Payton (Paula) raising both children to go on to accomplish great things and helping all her grandchildren realize their own dreams. Family came first and was above all else to Ethel, a value she instilled in all those around her. The hole left by her absence is impossible to fill.

Ethel was predeceased by her parents, her sister Jean and her brother Walter. She is survived by her husband, her two children, and her three grandchildren.

Ethel will be laid to rest at Heritage Oak Columbarium And Memorial Gardens. Celebration of life will be held on Friday 23rd of February at Hillside Wesleyan Church, 80 Chameau Crescent, Dartmouth, NS B2W 6J1 at 11:00 AM

Condolences

There was no other way to describe Aunt Ethal, but by sitting around Nana Monies kitchen table laughing and carrying on all while telling Uncle Mep that she was always smarter then he was. 🙂 She was so strong and inspirational to us all. She was lived to no end and will be missed by all. We love you Aunt Ethal Love Jenn

Ethel and I grew up together on the same street in Halifax and have been best friends throughout the years. My first phone call of every day was from my dear friend and we would talk about our plans for the day. We were both members of the Dartmouth General Hospital Auxiliary and the TOPS chapter in Cole Harbour. Before Covid, we enjoyed being season ticket holders at Neptune Theatre. Ethel was a remarkable woman loved by so many and who touched so many lives including mine. I would just like to say that there are so many people we meet in our lifetime but only a few make a lasting impression in our hearts and minds. Love and warm hugs to Ethel's family - take comfort in the gift she was to us.

I met sweet Ethel through Hillside and attended a few Bible study classes with her. She was always so upbeat with a fantastic sense of humour, so giving and so faithful to God. I remember walking with her on the walks that you organized Paula back in the day and going to coffee with her and Wayne after church some Sundays. Always so much fun. RIP my friend and I know you're in God's care now, pain free. My condolences and hugs to Ethel's family. . .she will be missed by all who knew her. ❤️🙏❤️

Dear Wayne and family, I only met Ethel when we moved into the same apartment building 2 years ago. One day we converged at the elevator and from there we became friends. Everyone that met Ethel became her friend...It was impossible not to be, as she loved people and genuinely cared about others. As short of a time as I had knowing her, I will never ever forget her, and will look forward to meeting her again in Heaven someday. (You are strolling with your precious Jesus now, dear Ethel! 💕)

I am so thankful to God for the walk with Ethel in my faith journey. Her laughter and love were so welcoming. She loved her family and friends and wanted them to know Jesus. She was an amazing woman in so many ways. Christmas Eve she asked me to sign her up for Alpha in January 2024. She is now in the arms of Jesus. Rest with him. My love and prayers are with the family and all that knew her. Blessings Cindy

I've known Ethel since 1968 from working at MSI, she was a great friend and Co-worker, always laughing, one of our Christmas parties we were discussing if we would be going, either of us had dates at the time, going to the fleet club I introduced to Wayne previous, I suggest she invite him she said oh I don't think he will go he seems so shy, I said try and she did lol and behold he accepted it was the start of a great relationship that brought them both much joy. RIP Ethel, condolences to you Wayne, Rhonda, Paula, and Grandchildren, She loved you all, most conversation's at least one of you were mentioned. Hopefully the memories you have of Ethel will get you through this difficult time.
