Obituary For Jerry Winston Billard
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Jerry Winston Billard at home on September 29th 2021 in Shad Bay.
Jerry was born in Halifax to Shelia (Billiard) and Jerry Billard of Grand Bruit NL. He spent his childhood summers returning to the family homestead where he enjoyed spending time with his grandparents/relatives and riding mini dirt bikes around the town with his brother.
A hockey player in his youth, he was known for being a rough character, sometimes even getting into brawls. He was an outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. Being a member of the boy scouts growing up he passed this tradition down to his son and was involved with a few troop canoe camping trips using a cedar canoe they restored together.
Jerry loved the nightlife. Partying with friends and listening to records into the late hours was one of his favorite things to do and he could play a mean harmonica. Jerry owned a number of boats in his time including a large cape islander. He loved to captain and navigate around the waters of prospect bay. An avid reader you could often find him lying back on the couch with his nose buried in a book.
He was employed for many years as a pipefitter with the plumber and pipefitter union local 56 where he traveled all over for work. A devoted father Jerry worked hard to provide for his family.
He is survived by his parents Jerry and Shelia Billard, brother Keith (Bev) Billard, son Tommy (Kaitlyn) Billard, daughter Danielle Billard (Chris) granddaughter Delaney and former wife Nicole (Nicky) Laverdure.
Cremation services have taken place and a private celebration of life ceremony will be announced at a later date.
